5 Ways To Access The Best You
We live in a crazy world full of information. Every day it amazes me just how many people are telling us who to be, what is pretty, what is smart, what is right and what is wrong. And sometimes, without even thinking, we listen and we change. And sure, that change can be for the better but sometimes, trying to fit in can put us on a path to nowhere and we end up lost and confused. So, how do we A. figure who we actually are, despite the noise and B. stay true to that. Here are five guaranteed (and I don't use this word lightly, folks) ways to do just that.
1. Take time away from technology
In my experience computer screens, phones, iPads - anything where you can get stuck browsing mindlessly is nothing short of a a physical and emotional drain. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a mindless social media scroller too, but try to recognise the point where other people’s highlight reels are starting to make you draw comparisons and feel bad about yourself. Then walk away.
2. Drop the fad diets
I ignore EVERY new diet that comes on the market. I’m so tired of them. I believe that if you are truly committed to wellness, you will take the time to learn about your body and what it needs. Take note that I say “needs” not “wants” - because my body wants that entire chocolate cake in my belly as soon as possible. But I know that it doesn’t need it.
3. Meditate
Our brains are huge. Gigantic. And mastering our thoughts takes us a long way toward mastering our lives. The benefits are slow and sometimes hard to notice; deeply ingrained in us. But one day you will wake up and notice that the smog has cleared just that little bit more and you’re walking with your head just that little bit higher. Then comes the snowball effect. Everyone has five minutes available in their day, so this is how I’d encourage you to use it. If you are knew to mediation you can use my guided meditation video as a starter.
4. Keep moving
Well, this is just science. Exercise makes endorphins and endorphins make you happy. Happy people think more positively and are more creative. They just are. Now, I don’t mean you have to go pump iron in the gym five days a week. If you're into that then cool, but even taking your dog for a walk or going for a swim in the sea will make a difference. Stay active, always.
5. BE A YES
This phrase changed my life. Be a yes even when you are scared; actually, especially when you are scared. March with your flag held high even if you can hear your knees knocking beneath you. When we are vulnerable our hearts and minds are wide open, and this is when transformation happens; the AHA moments. Be a Yes!
