Why take a probiotic? And what is a probiotic?

Incase you didn’t know by now, there is a whole world living in your digestive system that we are only just starting to understand. Much like London, within this city you’ll find goodies (good bacteria) and badies (bad bacteria) and probiotics are the good guys. Studies have shown that an abundance of good bacteria helps control the bad bacteria and promotes your overall health and wellbeing in a few ways:

  • decreasing inflammation

  • improving digestion

  • improving immunity

  • improving mood and mental clarity

So why wouldn’t want more of this good stuff in our guts, helping us live our best lives?

Probiotics & prebiotics

Like all organisms, good bacteria need to eat and we call their food prebiotics. In our diets, feeding our good bacteria can mean something as simple as increasing our intake of green vegetables, legumes, beans, fruit and fermented foods amongst others. So, as much as we love to welcome hew arrivals into our bodies, we also want to make sure they are provided with ample good food to keep them strong and thriving.

I was also really curious to hear more about why they chose Acacia Fiber as their prebiotic and was so interested to learn about the effects of inulin; the only off-the-shelf prebiotic I’ve ever tried. Here’s what they have to say…

“Acacia is classed as a soluble fibre, and so, during digestion it attracts and absorbs water to form a gel-like substance that promotes digestive health and is a good treatment for constipation45. However, when added as a prebiotic, research has shown that Acacia fiber stimulates the growth of healthy bifidobacteria and lactobacillus bacteria46. Compared to other prebiotic dietary fibres, Acacia is considered low FODMAP (Fermentable oligo-, di-, monosaccharides and polyols), meaning it is well tolerated and gentle on the stomach because of its slow fermentation rate; whereas many common prebiotics such as FOS (fructooligosaccharides) or inulin can cause digestive issues such as gas and bloating.”

I have never felt anything but wonderful taking the Feel Daily Biotic. I have more clarity, more energy and I don’t feel bloated after meals - I was especially grateful for that after the festive period! And with the proven range of benefits of adding a probiotic supplement to your daily routine it just makes sense to crack on and do it and if you’re going to do it, do it with Feel. Their supplements are always clean, scientifically proven (I know because I sent a stern email to their Head of Nutrition to be sure) and they always add a little extra something to the mix. In this case, the acacia fiber prebiotic.
